🇬🇧 In the middle of the traffic of Piazza Malpighi stands a silent giant that has seen centuries of history: a monumental plane tree planted in the 16th century. It is one of the oldest trees in Italy. Legend says that its roots reach the ancient underground canals and that, if you listen closely, the rustle of its leaves tells the secrets of the travelers who once entered the city through the nearby Porta Saragozza. At ALCE, we love these green symbols of resilience. Our Social Program often stops here to admire this living monument, teaching our students that Bologna’s “Italian + Culture” experience is found even in its ancient nature.
🇮🇹 Nel mezzo del traffico di Piazza Malpighi svetta un gigante silenzioso che ha visto secoli di storia: un platano monumentale piantato nel XVI secolo. È uno degli alberi più antichi d’Italia. La leggenda dice che le sue radici raggiungano gli antichi canali sotterranei e che, se ascolti bene, il fruscio delle sue foglie racconti i segreti dei viaggiatori che un tempo entravano in città dalla vicina Porta Saragozza. Ad ALCE amiamo questi simboli verdi di resilienza.
