The Excellence of Education in Bologna: Laura Bassi

Cinematic shot of Laura Bassi, the first woman in history to hold a university chair, depicted in a scene from the film set in 18th-century Bologna.

🇬🇧 On International Women’s Day, we look back at a milestone in Bolognese history: Laura Bassi. In 1732, she became the first woman in the world to be appointed as a university professor. She was a pioneer of knowledge and a symbol of the academic prestige that has made Bologna famous for centuries.

At ALCE, we are proud to continue this long tradition of educational excellence. Under the leadership of our female Director and thanks to our skilled teaching staff—where women represent the majority—we work every day to offer high-quality language training. It is the passion and professionalism of our entire team, both women and men, that makes ALCE a special place to learn and grow. Happy International Women’s Day!
