Guglielmo Marconi was born on 25 April 1874 in the elegant Palazzo Marescalchi, located in the heart of the historic center of Bologna. His father Giuseppe, a wealthy landowner, after the death of his first wife who had given him a son named Luigi, had married Annie Jameson for the second time, a young Irish woman who had come to Bologna to study singing. From the romantic and adventurous marriage, celebrated in secret due to the hostility of her relatives, in Boulogne sur Mer (France) on 16 April 1864, the firstborn Alfonso was already born in 1865. 1895 –

Radiotelegraphy. The obstinacy in trying countless modifications and excellent manual skill proved to be decisive elements in improving the instruments used for the birth of wireless telegraphy. In particular, Marconi significantly improves the sensitivity of the Coherer and creates the fundamental antenna-ground system to increase the transmission distance. In 1936 Marconi made a reconstruction of his invention which took place at Villa Griffone: “In that house about forty years ago I managed to make an electric bell ring without any wire. Encouraged by the results I decided to face the open space outside, placing my electric bell behind the Celestine hill, I launched the impulses and the bell rang”. Marconi demonstrated that radio waves could overcome natural obstacles and began to challenge distance (an element that was later fundamental in his activity as a pioneer of radio communications).
