In the 12th and 13th centuries Bologna reached 180 towers, built mainly by noble families as symbols of power and defense. Today fewer than twenty remain, with the spotlight on the Asinelli Tower, which measures 97 meters and was completed in 1119. Next to it is the Garisenda Tower, famous for its tilt. Together, these towers are architectural icons that preserve the medieval heritage of the city.
