The legendary story of this noble German Prelate, whose tombstone is visible in the stupendous Church of S. Flaviano in Montefiascone, says: Johannes De Fugger, German Bishop who loved good drinking, during a journey to Rome sent his servant Martino ahead, as a wine taster, ordering him to write the word EST on the door of every town! (It is), if the wine was good and EST! EAST!! if it was great. Arriving in Montefiascone the servant found the wine so good that he wrote the word EST three times. The year was 1111; the East! EAST!!
