The appointment with the national day dedicated to the Supreme Poet returns on Monday 25 March: in Emilia-Romagna the celebrations begin in Ravenna, the city that preserves his remains.
“Dantedì“, the national day dedicated to Dante Alighieri, takes place coinciding with the date of 1300 in which the journey narrated in the “Divine Comedy” begins
The initiatives planned in Emilia-Romagna have Ravenna as their ideal starting point, the city where the Supreme Poet has been buried for more than seven centuries.

The official opening is set at 9.15am, with the reading of the First Canto of “Purgatory” right in front of his monumental tomb, in the heart of the so-called “Zone of Silence”, which in addition to the neoclassical tomb designed by Camillo Morigia at the end of Eighteenth century includes the Quadrarco of Braccioforte, the Ancient Franciscan Cloisters and the Basilica of San Francesco.
From Tuesday 19th to Sunday 31st March, entry to the Museum and Casa Dante is free for all schools of all levels; Saturday 23 and Monday 25 March entry is free for all visitors.

There are many testimonies of the Poet’s passage to Bologna
The famous Tower is also mentioned in the Divine Comedy, when Dante finds himself in the “Well of the Giants”, punished for opposing God, between the eighth and ninth circles. On this occasion the Supreme Poet sees the giant Antaeus protruding from the well and compares him to the Garisenda Tower.
