Italian opera singing is a world heritage site

The UNESCO Committee for Intangible Heritage has proclaimed the practice of Italian opera singing as an element of the intangible heritage of humanity.

The proclamation took place by acclamation at the meeting of the member countries of the Committee.

It is a very important goal – comments Assolirica – achieved after a long journey started in 2011 when solo opera singers formed an association called Cantori Professionisti d’Italia with the aim of bringing together the category and allowing a professional comparison on a wide range of problems, starting from the defense and diffusion of the value of music and more specifically of the opera theater as an excellence and heritage of the culture of the Italian Republic.

It was precisely the internal dialogue within this community that lit the spark that would lead to the development of a first draft dossier to nominate Italian opera for the UNESCO commission”.

“After long and detailed work, a great excellence of our nation obtains another recognition from UNESCO by becoming part of the intangible heritage. This is an official consecration of what we already knew: opera singing is a global excellence, among those that best represent us across the planet.
