Il 19 luglio 1374 moriva Francesco Petrarca. Lo sapevi che il famoso poeta studiò anche diritto a Bologna?
Dal 1320 Petrarca visse infatti sotto le Due Torri. Nelle sue lettere senili ricorda sempre con affetto e malinconia quel periodo di giovinezza, nel quale andava spensierato in giro per la città fin sui colli,assaporando la ricchezza di una città che lui stesso definisce, oltre che dotta, grassa.
Nelle Seniles, il Petrarca parlava anche del grande affetto verso Bologna, scrivendo: “io non credo luogo più bello e più libero trovar si potesse nel mondo intero”. Ed è proprio qui che scoprì la sua passione per le discipline umanistiche, ma solo dopo la morte del padre poté realmente dedicarsi alla letteratura.

Petrarch’s life beneath the Two Towers started in 1320. In his “Seniles” (Letters of Old Age), he shared affectionate memories of that time and a melancholy for that period of youth, in which he roamed the city and surrounding hills, carefree and savoring the wealth of a city that he himself defined as “dotta” (the learned one) as well as “grassa” (the fat one).In the “Seniles”, Petrarch also spoke of his great affection for Bologna, writing: “I do not think that one could find a more beautiful or freer place in all the world”.This is precisely where he discovered his passion for the humanities, but not until the death of his father could he truly devote himself to literature.
