The same tips are applieble anywhere you would study, including Italy
Are you living in Italy, wondering: how can I take advantage of this experience? How can I make the most of this opportunity? Below, we’re going to give you some tips on how to make the most of your trip, so you can go home with not only a lot of memories and souvenirs but also with a Italian level worthy of a native.
Language immersion is very important, so forget about staying at home, watching Netflix, or talking on Skype with your friends and family while telling them how wonderful this country is. Go out and experience it for yourself!
Go out!
The first thing I would recommend is that you go out on the street and see the most emblematic places in the city. Lose yourself in that neighborhood you fell in love with, where you’d like to live forever, and ask people questions, let them advise you so you can discover secrets and delights that are not easily seen, the ones that a normal tourist will usually miss.
Have a drink or a bite to eat on your own: some wine, a slice of Pizza, a gelato, etc., either alone or with friends or classmates. And I place special emphasis on “on your own” because you’re never going to be.
Italians are very sociable, we love to talk, and with everybody. And don’t be afraid they’ll say something about your low level of Italian (you always think you have very poor communication skills, which is never the case), because Italians, in general, will always tell you that you speak wonderfully, as they are usually delighted that other people want to learn their language.
Travel!
Travel through Italy, as much as you can, don’t just stay in the city where you have your school or where you have settled in. Take advantage of the fact that our country is relatively small, as well as how cheap and easy it is to travel between different cities. And enjoy the large number of cultural offerings Italy has for you, such as charming towns, unique settings, as well as the great number of World Heritage sites we have, a total of 54, being the first country in the world with the most sites.

Find a course.
Another recommendation is that you sign up at a school, do some courses, and forget about language learning apps (they’ll be waiting for you in your country, where people don’t speak Italian). It could be us, or any other academy that teaches Italian courses for foreigners, but why should I fool you? There is nobody like us if you want to learn Italian in Italy. And on top of that, we are an official partner of the University for foreigner of Siena and Perugia (the 2 main bodies for Italian language official certification).
Now, another recommendation is that you participate in all the activities the school offers: museums, going out for tapas, excursions, etc. Although, of course, be careful, and don’t go spending every evening with the same students you share a mother tongue with. No cheating! Enjoy, but at the same time learn, putting everything you’re studying into practice.
Fall in love!
This last piece of advice will depend more on how long you’re going to be in our country, and it is the following: Find yourself an Italian boyfriend or girlfriend. There is no better way to learn Italian in Italy than when someone you really want to listen to, and who you want to spend all your time with, explains it to you. That’ll be a really good linguistic immersion!
